1. Enter the peer review system by clicking here or entering the URL of the site in your browser's address bar: http://ei.ed.psu.edu/CPR/.
2. Select Step 2 ("Write and Post Your Draft Report"). When prompted for your user information, enter your User ID and 4-digit password.
3. The first field on the form asks what "topic" you used in your bioassay. Select "Lettuce Seeds."
4. In the "Title" field, name your report "Chemical-name on lettuce seeds" followed by a random 5-digit number that you make up. That will give your report a unique name. Please tell your lab partner what 5-digit number you selected so he or she won't peer review YOUR report.
5. Fill in the form, which asks you to state your research question and prompts you for very specific information. For "What type of bioassay organism did you use" please provide specific information on the type of seed you used. Please check your posting VERY CAREFULLY before you submit it. Let's shoot for zero typos.
6. Click on the "Save Report" button at the bottom of the screen. You can then Preview and Edit the draft report using the links that are displayed. Once it meets your standard (perfection), click on Post, then on "I'm Sure I'm Ready to Post." (Yeah, it's a little silly).
7. If you've left any fields blank, an error message will pop up and you'll have the option of doing more editing.
8. If you don't have time to finish the report in one sitting, you can do more work on it by returning later to the hyperlink in #1 above. Be sure to complete the Submit step by the deadline (see our class schedule).
Some clarification about academic integrity for this assignment:
a. You carried out the experiments in groups of 2-3 students. You and your group members should report identical data in your data tables.
b. I encourage you to discuss your experiments and your findings with each other. Your written reports are to be your own work. Certainly we would expect that you are likely to reach conclusions similar to your lab partner(s). However, your written responses should be your own work. The submission of identical prose (or prose that has had just a few synonyms exchanged to make it "different") will be treated as plagiarism.
c. If you have any questions about the balance that we expect between collaboration and individual work, please ask.
