Educational Game Lesson Critique Assignment

Play the educational game, "Survival." As you play the game, discuss the science and the game with the other players. Critique it from the inside. As you proceed, you may decide to alter the rules to make the game more engaging or to improve the underlying science. Any rule changes require a consensus view of the group: that is, you must all agree on them. Be sure you all record on your data sheets any points where rule changes are made, and what those changes entailed.

Working individually or (recommended) with a partner, prepare a critique of the game. When it is at a state that you (and your partner) are in complete agreement about, please save it as a ".doc" document labelled "411 Write5 Lastname1 Lastname2" and place in the the ANGEL dropbox. Make sure that (both of) your names are also included at the top of the document. The form and format of the critique is up to you, and you are welcome to use your imaginations. 2-3 pages should suffice. I will grade your critiques based on your assessment of the importance of the content being taught (so you need to talk about content), any misconceptions that the game might address or create, and your sense of how effectively the game (with your modified rules) teaches scientific concepts and ideas. You are encouraged to make reference to the State or National science standards, but this need not be exhaustive (citing a couple and explaining how the game addresses them will be sufficient).
